How It Started

A Name on the Door Means Someone Answers for Every Repair

Nick's Refrigeration didn't start with a business plan. It started with a simple idea: people should be able to trust the person fixing their appliances. When your name is on the door, you can't hide from a bad repair or an unfair estimate.

Since 1950, that principle has guided every service call, every diagnosis, and every conversation with a Monroe County homeowner trying to decide whether to repair or replace. Seventy-four years later — after technology changed, after brands multiplied, after the industry filled up with fly-by-night operators — that founding idea is still the whole company.

"If it can be fixed, we'll fix it right. If it can't, we'll tell you — and we'll tell you why."

The Nick's Promise — since 1950

That's not a marketing line. It's how Nick's has survived and earned a reputation that outlasted every competitor who tried to undercut us. You don't stay in business in one community for 74 years by cutting corners or pushing unnecessary replacements.

Our History

74 Years. Still Fixing.

A few milestones along the way — though the real history is the thousands of Monroe County families who've called us for decades.

The Beginning
Nick's Refrigeration Founded in Spencerport, NY

The business opens with one focus: honest appliance repair for Monroe County families. Refrigerators and freezers are the primary work — the business name reflects it.

1960s
Expanding Into Home Appliances

As washers, dryers, and ranges become household staples, Nick's expands its services to cover the full range of home appliances — the foundation for what the business is today.

1970s–1980s
New Brands, Same Standard

New appliance brands flood the market — GE, Maytag, Whirlpool, Kenmore. Nick's builds expertise across all of them while competitors come and go. The reputation for honest diagnosis grows.

1990s–2000s
Frank Takes the Reins — and the Phone

The business passes to son Frank, who brings the same no-shortcuts work ethic that built the company's reputation over four decades. Frank specializes in the classic, repairable appliances Nick's was built on — and makes a deliberate choice to stay in his lane: he does not service the newer computerized appliance models that require specialized dealer tooling. What he does, he does right.

📞
Frank Still Answers Every Call — Personally

When you call Nick's, you're not reaching a call center or an answering service. You're talking directly to Frank — the owner, the technician, the person who will actually show up and do the work. That's not an accident. That's a choice.

Today
74 Years In. Frank's Still Here. Still Fixing. Still Answering.

Four generations of Monroe County families have called Nick's. The brands change. The technology changes. What hasn't changed: you call, Frank answers. He diagnoses the problem honestly, tells you whether it makes sense to repair, and if it does — he fixes it right the first time. No middlemen. No runaround. Just a person who takes pride in his work and his word.

What We Stand For

The Appliance Industry Has a Replacement Problem. We Don't.

Big box stores make money when you buy a new appliance. Manufacturers make money when you upgrade to their next model. Even some repair services make it easier to quote "not worth repairing" than to spend the time diagnosing properly.

We've built our business on the opposite approach. Honest diagnosis first. Honest estimate before any work begins. And if the repair genuinely doesn't make financial sense — we'll tell you, even though we don't make money from that answer.

That's not a policy. It's how a business with a family name on the door survives in one community for 74 years.

Diagnosis Before Quotes

We find the actual problem before we quote the repair. No guesswork. No "it could be the compressor" without evidence.

🏷️
Price We Quote Is Price You Pay

No "while we were in there" additions. No surprise line items. We honor what we quoted — full stop.

💬
Honest Repair or Replace Guidance

We'll tell you when a repair doesn't make financial sense — even though that means we don't get paid for it. Your trust is worth more than a single job.

📞
Frank Answers — Not a Call Center

You talk directly to Frank — the owner and the technician. He can actually help you figure out what's happening with your appliance on the very first call.

The Nick's Difference

What You Get When You Call Nick's vs. Starting Over With Someone New

Not all appliance repair is the same. Here's what separates a 74-year reputation from a Google result.

Typical Repair Company
Nick's Refrigeration
Quoting "replacement" without proper diagnosis — it's faster and easier for them
Diagnose the actual problem first, then give you a real estimate with honest options
Vague pricing that shifts after work begins — "while we were in there" extras
Quoted price is the price you pay. No additions without your explicit approval
Multi-week waits, missed appointment windows, no-shows, call centers
Same-day service often available. You talk directly to Frank — the owner — when you call. We show up.
Same issue 3 months later — root cause was never properly identified
74 years of diagnostic experience means we find the real problem, not the surface symptom
No accountability — they're a call center booking, you'll never talk to the same person twice
Family name on the door since 1950. Frank owns it, works it, and answers for it every single day.
Monroe County Is Home

We're Not Passing Through. We've Been Here 74 Years.

Spencerport is where Nick's started, and Monroe County is where Nick's has stayed. We're not a franchise. We're not a national chain with a local number. We're a business that grew up in this community and built our reputation one honest repair at a time.

When you've been in the same community for 74 years, you take reputation seriously. Our customers' parents called us. Their kids call us now. That kind of trust isn't won by a marketing campaign — it's built by showing up, telling the truth, and fixing things right.

What Drives Us

The Values Behind Every Service Call

These aren't words on a wall. They're the principles that built a 74-year reputation in Spencerport.

🤝

Honesty First

We tell you the truth about your appliance — repair or replace — before you make a decision. Our business depends on trust, not on getting the job at any cost.

🔧

Repair, Don't Replace

The appliance industry profits from replacement. We profit from doing excellent repair work. These are fundamentally different incentives — and we choose ours deliberately.

📋

No Surprises

The price we quote is the price you pay. We don't start work and then find reasons to charge more. Transparent pricing is non-negotiable.

⏱️

Respect Your Time

We show up when we say we will. We diagnose efficiently. We don't keep you waiting for days to get an answer about whether your appliance is fixable.

🏆

Do It Right Once

A properly diagnosed and properly repaired appliance doesn't break down again in three months. We fix the root cause — not just the symptom — because callbacks hurt our reputation.

🌍

Community Accountability

Monroe County is not just our market — it's our neighborhood. Frank lives and works here. His name means something here. That accountability shapes every decision he makes.

Frank's photo + bio coming soon — replace with owner portrait and a few sentences in his own words.

"I've called Nick's for appliance repair three times over the years. Every time, they've been honest, fast, and reasonably priced. The third time, they actually told me the washer wasn't worth repairing — and I appreciated the honesty more than the repair."
